Now offering individual sewing classes

Taylor's Stitch in Time offers private sewing lessons intended for personal interest or enjoyment, or to update existing skills.  Training is offered from basic sewing skills to  the Haute Couture level. 


Lesson's are offered on an individual basis and are tailored to the student's specific skill level or needs.

Process-specific lessons are also offered

Students are taught specific sewing processes if that is the needed lesson. 

Hemming, alterations, button attachment, repairs, hand sewing, taking measurements, filling the bobbin, threading the sewing machine, operating the sewing machine, etc. are offered via one-on-one instruction.

Classes are offered and tailored to the student's individual needs. Students are provided with one-on-one lessons ensuring all instructions are received and mastered before moving on to the next level.

Lessons are delivered by a certified instructor with over 30 years experience in Garment Construction and Fashion Designing to include Pattern Making/Grading.

Sewing Levels

Level Zero

For the student with no sewing experience this is tailored specifically for you.  Students at this level will be introduced to basic sewing equipment and notions as well as basic hand sewing skills.

Changing the machine needle.

 

For the student who may have used a sewing machine before but needs a refresher in filling the bobbin, threading the machine and doing basic stitches as well as securing the stitches at the start and finish of a seam.

Level 2 Beginner (Part B)

The student who can fill the bobbin and thread the sewing machine but now needs to know how to stitch curved seams, maintain even seam allowances and join two or more pieces of fabric together.

Level 3 Advanced Beginner

For the student who can thread the sewing machine, stitch straight and curved seams, join one or more pieces of fabric together.  You can now learn to take measurements, cut simple projects and put them together from simple patterns.

You are able to take basic measurements and construct basic items from patterns.  You will learn about more advanced sewing equipment and notions, and fabric choices.  You will also be introduced to more complex projects based on your comfort level.

You can construct simple styles from simple patterns as well as do basic repairs on your own.  You will take your skills further by creating your own styles or choosing from a catalogue and making the entire project.

 The student will learn more advanced construction techniques and will sew more advanced styles.

Students will learn pattern making and alterations/grading as well as how to do basic clothing alterations and/repairs

In addition to the levels offered, students can also request lessons in specific areas - inserting zippers, attaching collars, sewing on eyelets, putting in pockets, using interfacing, etc.
